As you may be aware, our Business Representative, Tim Magee, was recently appointed by Michigan Governor Granholm, to the Michigan Film Advisory Commission.
One of the current agendas of the Commission is to help pass legislation that provides for substantial credits of sales-, use-, and small-business taxes by visiting production companies. Most other states currently have such programs in effect. These incentives have worked to increase production in other states by as much as several hundred percent. At this time, the current film incentives package is being held up in committee by our legislators in Lansing. If the bill is not brought out of committee by December 31, 2006, it will expire. Local 38 urges it's members, and anyone else who thinks Michigan could use more jobs, to write to the legislators below, and ask them to keep things moving, and get this bill out of committee. |
